Facelift
Rejuvenate your face and achieve smoother skin with a facelift. This common and popular procedure helps you get rid of wrinkles, folds, and loose skin, especially around the chin and neck area. We are here for those who feel that the aging process in their face does not match how they feel inside.
No one can stop the aging process, but together we can shape a future that better reflects who you are.
Facelifts have thus become one of the most common and popular aesthetic procedures performed at our clinic today. No one can stop the aging process, but together we can shape a future that better reflects who you are! Wrinkles, folds, loose skin, and an increasingly tired appearance are not things most people look forward to. At our clinic, it’s mainly women, but also many men, who want to restore their former selves – without looking operated on. With modern technology and well-planned incisions, scarring is minimal and hidden, so you can regain the firmness and smoothness you deserve without any unsightly, visible scars.
Book a consultationHow does a Facelift work?
Before your surgery, you will always meet with one of our doctors for a consultation. This is routine and takes about half an hour. We do this to gain insight into your lifestyle, genetics, and the conditions you have to achieve your goals with the facelift. It is particularly important to have realistic goals and expectations with all types of facial plastic surgery. During the consultation, we discuss, among other things:
- What to consider before the surgery
- Possible risks
- Surgery under anesthesia
- Detailed explanation of the procedure
- Hygiene and post-operative care
- Prices
When you have booked your consultation, it is a good idea to prepare beforehand. Feel free to write down all your questions so that you don’t forget anything or feel uncertain afterward. It can also be very helpful if you bring pictures of the results you want to achieve. For us, your safety and health are always the focus, so we want you to be as informed and prepared as possible before making your decision to book surgery.
When you arrive at our clinic, you will change into surgical clothes before your doctor once again goes over everything you discussed during the consultation and answers any remaining questions. Your doctor will then take pictures for comparison at your upcoming follow-up visit. Naturally, these photos are completely confidential. Before the surgery, we also create a well-planned drawing that aligns with your goals and conditions.
The facelift is performed under both general anesthesia and local anesthesia and takes about two to three hours, depending on the extent of your procedure. By making small incisions both in front of and behind the ear, as well as in the scalp, we can loosen the skin from the underlying structure. This allows us to adjust and tighten the loose areas while removing all excess skin, keeping scarring to a minimum.
After the surgery, you will rest in the recovery room, where you will stay until the next morning. This is included in the price and is a requirement from our side as we want to ensure everything has gone as it should without any complications. We also want you to be in good enough condition to go home and have another opportunity to ask questions. You should also arrange for a friend, partner, or family member to drive you home from the clinic as the effects of the anesthesia will still be noticeable.
To ensure your healing process goes as smoothly as possible, you will receive all the information you need regarding hygiene, dressings, and many other necessary tips before you leave. Since the hair should be washed daily to keep the area clean, we will help you with the first washing the morning after the surgery.
As with all facial plastic surgery, you will experience pain and swelling in the days following your operation. The level of discomfort varies greatly from person to person. Therefore, you will always receive enough pain medication to make the pain as manageable as possible. At night, it is a good idea to use several pillows to keep your head elevated as much as possible.
The amount of bruising and swelling you experience is individual. However, this gradually subsides after about one to two weeks. During this period, only soft, easy-to-chew food is recommended. Chewing gum and similar items should be avoided entirely to prevent straining your face. We recommend that you take two weeks off work after the procedure and avoid any physical activities such as weight training or other sports.
The stitches will be removed in two stages during your first two follow-up visits. The visible stitches placed in front of the ears are removed one week after surgery, while the remaining stitches are removed at the follow-up visit another week later. A few months later, the scars are almost invisible. Note that you will also experience reduced sensation in the areas where the incisions were made, which is completely normal. Sensation will return after a short period.
Our clinic often performs other forms of facial plastic surgery in conjunction with the procedure. The most common are combining it with brow lifts, lip injections, or liposuction around the chin. During the consultation, you will have the opportunity to talk with the doctor about combination procedures and which options are suitable for you and your physical conditions.
What are the risks of a Facelift?
All plastic surgery, as well as common surgeries under anesthesia, always carry a risk of various complications. However, at our clinic, we always take all preventive safety measures to minimize the risk of any of these affecting you.
- Visible scars (primarily occurring in smokers and diabetics)
- Damage to the ear’s sensory nerve
- Hair loss around the edges of the scars
- Nerve damage affecting facial muscle movements
These complications are not common and can usually either be corrected or resolve on their own. If you are a smoker, you can significantly reduce the risk of these by following the doctor’s instructions both before and after surgery, as smoking can otherwise prolong the healing process.
Reformkliniken follows up and evaluates the results of surgeries and has a systematic quality assurance process to detect any potential issues.
