Brow lift
A brow lift is a common plastic surgery procedure for those who have issues with wrinkles and deep, long lines on their forehead. The aging process is inevitable and can give others a false impression that you are tired, troubled, or even angry. We tighten the skin and lift your eyebrows, resulting in a younger and happier appearance.
The famous “worry line” didn’t get its name for nothing. That’s why many people come to our clinic for a brow lift, also known as a forehead lift.
The causes of wrinkles and lines on the forehead can range from diet and exercise to genetics and lifestyle. The skin’s elasticity deteriorates with age, but a lifetime of sun exposure and smoking can significantly accelerate the process, resulting in both vertical and horizontal lines. This appearance may not always match how you feel inside. While there’s not much you can do about your past, together with us, you can always change your future!
Book a consultationHow does a brow lift work?
For us, you and your health are the top priority. By always conducting a consultation, the doctor gains a good understanding of your conditions to achieve desirable results with a brow lift. We also gain insight into both your current health and any previous health issues. This way, we can tailor the procedure to suit your body and achieve the best possible results.
The consultation lasts about half an hour, and you will have the opportunity to ask as many questions as you want. It is extremely important to us that you feel well-informed and secure before making a decision about undergoing a brow lift. It’s easy to forget your questions once you’re here, so we encourage you to prepare for our meeting by writing down all your questions and concerns.
Together, we will also go through:
- Your wishes, questions, and conditions
- What to consider before the surgery
- How a brow lift/forehead lift is performed
- Differences between traditional and endoscopic brow lifts
- Anesthesia
- How to take care of yourself during the healing process
- Prices
- Scheduling
On the day of your surgery, you will be assigned a room where you will also spend the night at no extra cost. Here, you will change into surgical clothes and meet your surgeon again for a final review of the entire process, giving you a chance to get answers to any new questions that may have arisen. We will then take some photographs to use for comparison at your future follow-up visits. Before the operation, your surgeon will carefully mark the affected area according to your wishes.
The entire operation is performed under anesthesia, so you will not feel any pain during the procedure. Depending on whether you and your surgeon have decided that a traditional or endoscopic brow lift is optimal for you, the operation can vary slightly. Typically, the entire procedure takes about two hours.
- Endoscopic brow lift: This method, performed through so-called keyhole surgery, is the most common and requested technique as it hides scars exceptionally well. The surgeon only needs to make a few centimeter-long incisions hidden in the hairline. We then adjust the skin’s tension, smooth out wrinkles, and reduce strain in the overworked muscles.
- The traditional method: In cases of particularly large amounts of excess skin, it may be necessary to perform the procedure using the traditional method, often referred to as an “open brow lift,” to achieve the goals set by you and your surgeon. Unlike keyhole surgery, longer incisions are made along the hairline. We then tighten the skin and remove the excess skin causing wrinkles and lines.
Afterward, you will rest in the recovery room until the next morning, as the effects of the anesthesia are still significant. It’s a good idea to arrange in advance for a friend or family member to pick you up when you are ready to go home. Before you leave, we ensure you are well taken care of and provide you with plenty of information on how to make the upcoming period as smooth and comfortable as possible.
We provide you with all the tools you need to ensure a swift healing process. Useful tips and instructions on how to best manage your dressings and hygiene are included. Of course, you are always warmly welcome to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
Your body now needs to recover, and you should therefore take sick leave for two to three weeks after the surgery. Exercise and other physical activities should also be avoided during this period. After just one week, you will come back to us for your first check-up to ensure that the healing is progressing as planned. Two weeks after that, the stitches will be ready to be removed.
Pain is most intense in the first few days but is managed with pain relief medication that you take home from the clinic. The first three days are the most challenging, as the swelling and bruising have not yet subsided. At night, it’s very helpful to sleep with your head elevated using extra pillows. After about 1-2 weeks, you will notice the swelling and bruising start to diminish.
What are the risks of a brow lift?
Just like with any surgery, there are always several risks to consider, especially when it is performed under anesthesia. For this reason, we always conduct a health examination during your consultation to take all possible preventive measures to avoid these risks. It’s also important to us that you feel well-prepared, informed, and secure before making the decision to schedule surgery. Examples of risks include:
- Reduced sensation in the area where the incisions were made
- Hair loss along the scar line
- Temporarily affected nerves
Even though these are uncommon and usually resolve on their own, it’s always good to weigh the risks of a brow lift against its benefits. There are also some general complications to consider, such as infection, postoperative bleeding, or clot formation. By offering an overnight stay included in the price, we prevent as many unnecessary risks as possible, and of course, you will not be sent home until we have ensured that everything has gone exactly as it should.
Reformkliniken follows up and evaluates the results of surgeries and has a systematic quality assurance process to detect any potential issues.
